Leadership

The wicked leader is he whom the people despise. The good leader is he whom the people revere. The great leader is he of whom the people say, We did it ourselves.
— Lao Tzu, about 2,500 year ago

The era of charismatic heroes is over. What we need today are people who lead with authenticity, take responsibility for strategic decisions, and understand their leadership role as an invitation: to create the space for others to do their best work. Leadership becomes an act of hosting.

What is the task of leadership?
According to SySt®, it can be described like this:

“Making strong decisions in difficult situations while providing stability and orientation – without claiming to be able to do so at all times.”

Developing Leadership capacity
Leadership means making decisions in complex situations that truly make a difference – and bringing colleagues along in the process. This requires reflection, a willingness to learn, and a deep commitment to continuous development from within. A shared vision and common values provide the essential framework.

Leadership strength can be embodied both by traditional leaders with formal authority and by people in functional leadership roles – for example in self-organised, agile circles with distributed leadership roles.
